Колледжи Уитмена и Уолла-Уолла [Whitman College, Walla Walla College]. Его история берет начало от фактории Нез-Персэ, иногда называвшейся Уолла-Уолла (1818). Современный населенный пункт, первоначально называвшийся Стептоувилл [Steptoeville], вырос вокруг военного форта Уолла-Уолла [Fort Walla Walla], построенного в 1856; получил статус города в 1862. В 1860-е развивался как перевалочный пункт на пути к золотым приискам на востоке Орегона и западе Айдахо.
